Welcome!

My passion for the natural world and the nuances of light, shadow, and color has connected me with so many like-minded people who value the natural environment and who get excited about experiencing it. I am deeply committed to creating artwork for homes where it will be loved and enhance calm and serenity. Thank you for taking the time to visit my website and explore my work. It means so much to me that we can connect through this work.

About the Artist

Clifton Taylor is an award-winning theatrical designer on stages on almost every continent around the world. His professional life as a designer has been urban-focused, world-hopping, chaotic, and thrilling. Throughout his life, he found solace and peace through both painting and drawing and by retreating to nature, through walks in the woods, biking, swimming, and hiking.

Time with nature deeply shaped how he sees light, and especially how light helps to define stillness in a chaotic world. His work expresses the wonder and peace in these environments, and he seeks to express the sacred joy of light and shadow in the natural world.

His paintings are in private collections across the US and in Europe.

I can remember being obsessed with light as a young child. I think of all the work that I have done around this fascination, in painting and drawing, in the theater, and as a writer, as a kind of vocation

I grew up outside of Chicago. My family liked to camp, and I was given a reverence for and deep enjoyment of nature. Like many families in the 1960s, we saw the country with a station wagon and a pop-up trailer.

When I began working as a designer in the theater, my career took me around the world. I gained a love for travel and for culture and storytelling that I bring into my painting today. Nature and the peace that it brings has been a constant place for me to refresh and find myself again. Now I live in North Carolina. I spend much more time in the woods and in nature, often painting on site, than I do in urban environments anymore.
