Oven and Barn, Old Salem NC

Oven and Barn
16″ x 20″
Oil on Board
*SOLD*

This plein air oil painting was sold today by the Red Dog Gallery in Winston-Salem. The two structures date from the historic Moravian settlement of Salem, North Carolina. The building on the left is an outdoor oven and on the right is the barn for the house. There is such incredible beauty in this old pre-revolutionary city, and I enjoy painting there very much.

Self-Stimulus Auction begins

A silent auction featuring visual art created by theater designers, technicians and performers.

Theaters, tours and events have been closed and cancelled since March 13. The future is still too uncertain for producing entities to commit, and the government is too divided to agree on timely measures of support for a workforce who has been sidelined by no fault of their own. Being how vision, trust and unwavering commitment are prerequisite for successful work in professional theater, many theater artists and workers have turned to what sometimes are referred to as our visualization tools of sketching, painting, sculpting as means to express, create and remain hopeful.

Take a look, get some holiday shopping done and support these incredibly talented and versatile artists. — Joe Levasseur and Pamela Rapp

I’m very grateful to have two pieces in this show – seen below with links.

ColorSpace3

ColorSpace3 is a 48″ x 60″ oil painting on canvas. It is not representative of any actual space, but rather it has been made over a long process of dialog with the work in progress wherein each action leads me to the next response, without a pre-determined overall concept. The emergent painting coalesces after time and consideration, layer upon layer.

Within this process, answers to questions of choice and gesture are allowed to come forth from a dreamscape of memories, impressions, and rhythms to create a space defined by color and light.

I have mocked up the canvas into an imagined room so that you can see the scale of the work and what it might look like framed.

$1100 + shipping. Viewable in person in Winston-Salem, NC at the artist’s studio by appointment

House and Pond

This work was made near our cabin in the Catskill Mountains in upstate New York. I have swum in the pond for many summers and it is a very special place to me and my family. The house and property was owned by a Doctor for many years. When he passed, his will stipulated that the land should be returned to the Catskill Preserve and held in trust for the people. Many people in the surrounding towns visit this beautiful land each year and hike the property. This is a view in high summer, near the time of the solstice.
